A surveillance camera system usually consists of 2 to 16 cameras, a recorder with a hard disk for recording and a cable set. Surveillance camera systems are available with different transmission options:
This form of transmission, largely replaced by other analogue technologies such as HD-TVI and HD-CVI, describes the transport of video signals up to a D1 resolution (720 pixels x 576 pixels) through a coaxial cable. There are no alternative forms of transmission without the help of, for example, 2-wire converters. Although this technology is mature and very reliable, it is no longer required due to the limited transmission of the resolution of cameras.
This analog technology allows lossless transmission of resolutions up to 1080P formats via coaxial cable, network cable or 2-wire, with a limited range of coax cables (up to 300 meters) and network cables (up to 200 meters). The camera protocol allows only HD-TVI recorders. Nevertheless, this system is very cost-effective as a surveillance camera set, since it dispenses with a digital interface.
Similar to the HD-CVI technique, this form of transmission is limited to a resolution of 1080P, but it works with automatic signal conditioning, thus achieving higher ranges than the HD-TVI transmission.
This technique has proven its value in studio technology due to its lossless and uncompressed data transfer, and there is no delay in transmission (as with CVI and TVI). The difference to the above mentioned CVI and TVI transmissions is the use of a digital interface. High bitrates of up to 3GBit / second allow the transport of video, sound and control data without delay. However, the cable lengths are limited to 100 meters.
Since the introduction of network technology in video surveillance in the mid-1990s, the market shares of the respective technologies have shifted strongly towards IP. HD systems are still present, especially in applications that depend on delay-free processes (in the IP technology, due to the network components such as computers, routers, etc to slight delays in video signal and camera commands) are dependent. Nevertheless, video transmission over networks has clear advantages in terms of topology. The management, delivery and archiving of network-based video information in IP systems is so extensive that there are no more bottlenecks.
The biggest challenge of IP video surveillance was the compatibility of the various systems: It took many years for a standard to be adopted that allowed IP recorders to work with a variety of different camera manufacturer protocols. The ONVIF protocol has become an important requirement, although not all functions of the IP camera are covered.
The Surveillance Camera Set provides the home user with little in-depth technical knowledge a cost-effective way to secure his house or land. There are different types and recorder sizes available.
