Guideline for your CCTV camera installation

The correct installation location of the camera - lighting conditions and object sizes

1. The biggest enemy: backlight

For optimal video quality, the right place for the camera should be carefully selected. Before drilling the holes for the bracket, installing any device and firmly fixing the cable, check the location of the camera for possible backlighting.

a. Sun History:

If the sun comes into the lens during the day, any camera is overburdened. WDR technology and backlight compensation can compensate for certain types of backlighting, but direct sunlight, in most cases, results in unusable images. Therefore never try to direct the camera into the sunlight and consider the course of the sun. Even if you keep the camera looking down, it may happen that the sun goes down in the evening and prevents any observation by the camera. Finding the optimal location may take some patience, but you will end up with a satisfactory result.

b. Car headlights, street lamps and home lighting:

Outdoor spotlights mounted on the house are relatively easy to incorporate into choosing the right camera location. For other backlight sources, such as car headlights, you should first observe the situation to rule out that it comes to direct light.

2. Determination of the area to be monitored

First determine the area the camera should cover. For this it is important to determine the correct angle. Keep in mind that the larger the angle, the smaller objects become. Although it covers a large area, it can not properly identify the objects.

A practical tool for determining the correct angle can be found here.

Application: You can read the focal length of the lens above. You search for your location using Google Maps, then press "add camera". The camera can then be rotated and adjusted. After entering the sensor (in most cameras it is 1/3 ") and the resolution you have the result. From the focal length, you are looking for the right camera. If you are not sure whether the correct angle is found, then choose a camera with a variable focal length such as 2.7mm - 12mm, so you can manually set an angle of 28 ° to 92 ° Some cameras also have a motorized focus / zoom lens: With these cameras, you set the angle quite comfortably from PC.

3. Installation height

For outdoor installation, a minimum height of 3 meters should be used to prevent the camera from being intentionally or unintentionally twisted, covered or damaged. At a lower installation height, it would be easy for burglars to sabotage the camera. The power and data cables should also be unreachable, ideally not or hardly visible. In the interior, this height is often not realize, but there is the height is not as relevant as in the outdoor area.

4. Stable assembly

To ensure that the optimally adjusted camera observes the adjusted range even years later, the safe and stable mounting of the camera is important.

The mounts suitable for the cameras are sturdy and do not twist during a storm. They should be fixed with 4 screws.

If you remember those tips, you will achieve a perfect result for your video surveillance installation!
